Court extends ED custody of Partha Chatterjee, Arpita Mukherjee till August 5 | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: A special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court on Wednesday extended the ED custody of former West Bengal education minister Partha Chatterjee and his aide Arpita Mukherjee till August 5.
The Enforcement Directorate had sought four days’ custody of Chatterjee in the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) scam; it had also sought three days’ custody of Mukherjee, from whose residence it recovered crores of rupees in cash, besides jewellery and other valuables.
The former minister’s lawyer prayed for his bail, while Mukherjee’s cousel submitted that there was no requirement for any further ED custody of his client.
Appearing for ED, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju submitted that several companies and properties in the joint holding of Chatterjee and Mukherjee were unearthed, and they need to be questioned on these.
Raju claimed before the court that Chatterjee has not been cooperating in the investigation, while Mukherjee is comparatively cooperative.
Meanwhile, West Bengal LoP Suvendu Adhikari lead protests against the SSC scam in Kolkata. “It is the party’s money, CM Mamata Banerjee’s money. Partha Chatterjee was only a custodian, CM Banerjee is the kingpin and should quit. Her whole racket should be taken into custody,” said the BJP leader.
