Goa: Minister Michael Lobo, Mayem MLA Pravin Zantye quit BJP | Goa News – Times of India

PANAJI: Science and technology minister Michael Lobo on Monday resigned as a member of the Goa Legislative Assembly, shortly after he resigned as a minister in CM Pramod Sawant-led BJP government. Later, BJP Mayem MLA Pravin Zantye resigned as an MLA.
Lobo, a two-time BJP MLA, also resigned from the primary membership of BJP.
With the resignation of Lobo, BJP’s strength in the House has been reduced to 24 MLAs. He is the first minister and third MLA from minority community to resign from the Party.
Lobo said that if former chief minister Manohar Parrikar was alive, he would have never quit the party.
“Parrikar was a very tall leader. I have a lot of good memories with him. Today, he is not there but he used to resolve issues sitting across the table. We also had arguments with him on several occasions. Definitely, he used to not agree but he used to understand what is in our mind,” said Lobo after being with the BJP for 15 long years.
Zantye submitted his resignation to legislature secretary Namrata Ulman. He had joined BJP on the eve of the 2017 assembly election. Before joining BJP, he had contested assembly election on two occasions, once as a Congress candidate and another time as an independent candidate.
Zantye said that he had joined the party on the request of Parrikar but after his demise in 2019, the party and local mandal did not support him despite following all the instructions given to him by the party.
