SHIMLA: BJP’s dream to repeat the government in Himachal Pradesh can be shattered with many leaders alleging “sabotage” in the polls.
Right ahead of the declaration of results for the assembly elections, audio clips have started coming out to expose the ongoing intense factionalism within the party. In the run upto to assembly polls, BJP’s campaign for “mission repeat” was going on in full swing till the allotment of tickets but following the announcement of candidates, party failed to maintain the tempo and now audio clips and a letter are surfacing to show that all is not well in the party.
According to highly placed sources in BJP, the presence of rebels in the elections was a planned move of a group opposed to chief minister Jai Ram Thakur and majority of rebels contesting as independent candidates are associated with a certain group. In the coming days, another group can raise this issue with the party high command.
Beside the presence of rebels, now the surfacing of audio clips first in Jogindernagar assembly constituency of Mandi district and now in Dalhousie assembly constituency of Chamba district has also exposed the leaders who after the denial of tickets left no stone unturned to work against the BJP.
Sources said that in many seats, leaders while remaining within the BJP have worked against the party and official candidates and now reports of such leaders are being prepared. It is a well known fact that the party winning maximum seats in Kangra district forms the government in Himachal Pradesh and this time BJP is facing the challenge of winning majority seats in Kangra district due to factionalism, presence of rebels and changing the seat of a minister.
In the Kangra assembly seat, BJP this time had fielded former working president of Congress, Pawan Kajal who had joined the party right before the elections. A section of BJP leaders was not happy with his induction. In the 2017 assembly election, Pawan Kajal had won from Kangra seat on Congress ticket with a margin of 6208 votes.
But this time after the polling, Kajal has now written a letter to BJP national president J P Nadda to complain about the anti-party activities of senior party leaders of district. In his complaint, Kajal said that a senior leader of district worked against the interest of party in many assembly constituencies including Nagrota Bagwan and Jawalamukhi.
The BJP has faced rebellion in more than a dozen seats and among these, the biggest challenge to the party is in Kangra district itself as here on five seats the strong leaders of the party rebelled and entered the fray. Now the equation for the party is likely to get worse due to this. Surfacing of audio clips and complaints are indicating that after the declaration of results the factionalism within BJP would intensify with warring factions blaming each other for the anti party activities.
