NEW DELHI: Several states reported a dip in daily Covid-19 cases on Monday, coinciding with a drop in testing figures. Maharashtra reported 33,470 new cases, a decrease of nearly 33% compared to Sunday’s data. West Bengal and Delhi also reported a drop in cases while Tamil Nadu registered a slight increase.
Kolkata reported 5,556 daily cases, a decrease of 36% from yesterday. Meanwhile, Mumbai logged a 30% dip in new infections.

The Omicron tally increased by 410 cases on Monday. The tally now stands at 4,033. India had added 502 Omicron cases to the total on Sunday.

Besides Maharashtra, West Bengal and Delhi, Karnataka, Gujarat and Kerala also reported lower daily figures on Monday. Only Tamil Nadu reported a slight increase of 8.5% in daily cases.

In major cities, Delhi reported 19,166 new cases compared to 22,751 infection on Sunday – a drop of 15.8 per cent. Chennai and Bengaluru reported marginal increase in fresh Covid infections.

India on Monday added 1,79,723 new Covid-19 cases. The active caseload is now 7,23,619 and accounts for 2.03% of all cases. The daily positivity rate has gone up to 13.29%.

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 death toll increased to 4,83,936 with 146 more deaths reported on Monday.
