Kannur: Teacher gets 79 years in jail for sexually assaulting 4 minor girl student | Kozhikode News – Times of India


KOZHIKODE: The Thaliparamba fast-track Pocso court sentenced a teacher to 79 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting four minor girl students inside the classroom while he was serving as a mathematics teacher at an aided lower primary school in Kannur.
Judge C Mujeeb Rahman also slapped a fine of Rs 2.7 lakh on the convict P E Govindan Namboodiri, 50, hailing from Chooral near Alappadambu in Payyannur. He was found guilty under Pocso section 9 (f) (whoever being on the management or staff of an educational institution commits sexual assault of a child in that institution), and under section 9 (l) in three cases (committing sexual assault on the child repeatedly and section 9 (m) (committing sexual assault on a child below 12 years).
He was given seven years imprisonment under each of the sections in the four separate cases in which he was found guilty. Also, he was found guilty under section 23 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
All the sentences will run concurrently. Police charged Namboothiri for repeated sexual assault of five students of Class 4 and 5 between June 2013 and Feb 2014. He was accused of sexually assaulting them on the pretext of helping solve problems in classroom.
