New Maruti Suzuki Baleno-based coupe SUV spied: Futuro-e concept’s production version – Times of India

Maruti Suzuki is truly on a roll this year, having already been launched multiple new products across different segments. The carmaker is also marking its entry in some new segments in the market, including the mid-size SUV space that Maruti Suzuki will enter soon with the launch of the Grand Vitara.
Now it seems like Maruti Suzuki is going to enter another new segment. The carmaker has been working on a new coupe crossover SUV, possibly based on the Baleno hatchback (internally codenamed YTB), and it looks like the the company could debut the new car as soon as next year, at the 2023 Auto Expo. The Heartect platform-based coupe SUV has been spied on test by us in these exclusive pictures here, revealing its shape and structure.

The Baleno Cross (not officially named yet) is essentially the production version of the Futuro-e concept displayed at the 2020 Auto Expo. Talking about the test mule, it looks much taller than the hatch it is based on. The car gets squared-off wheel arches with plastic body cladding. The alloy wheel design is also new, but we expect it to measure the same in size, i.e. 16-inches. The coupe SUV prototype features a sloping rear windscreen, which is connected to a rather flat tailgate.
The car also gets a chunky spoiler, and a shark fin antenna at the back. Moving to the front, not much is visible apart from the main headlamp unit peaking out of the camouflage, and what seems to be the LED DRL, placed on the lower portion of the front bumper. If latest rumours are to be believed, Maruti Suzuki could name this new car the ‘Baleno Cross’.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Cross (YTB)

The Baleno-based crossover/SUV will be positioned right above the Baleno in the company’ portfolio, and will serve as a direct competitor to the likes of Nissan Magnite, and the Renault Kiger. It is expected to be based on the same Heartect platform as the premium hatchback. The new car will likely be retailed through Maruti Suzuki’s premium Nexa dealerships.
