BHOPAL: One of the four cubs born to Namibian Cheetah Jwala died inside Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday.
The cub, born just two months ago, marks the fourth fatality among cheetahs translocated from African countries to Kuno within the past two months.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the cause of death of the cub was weakness.
A monitoring team discovered that one of the cubs was found motionless at the location where they were previously sighted, while the other three cubs were observed moving around with their mother.
The team promptly alerted veterinarians, who visited the spot to administer essential medical care to the ailing cub.
Despite their best efforts, the cub did not survive.
The forest department further stated that the cub’s frailty was likely a contributing factor, as it had exhibited signs of weakness since its birth.
Cheetah Jwala, formerly known as Siyaya, was brought to Kuno National Park from Namibia in September 2022. She gave birth to four cubs during the last week of March this year, bringing hope and excitement to the conservation efforts at the park.
