NEW DELHI: The crisis in Punjab Congress is far from over with the party still struggling for a truce between chief minister Charanjit Channi and state unit chief Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Senior Congress leader Harish Rawat, who is also the incharge of Punjab unit, said “Navjot Singh Sidhu and Charanjit Channi have spoken on some issues, a solution will emerge … there are some things that take time.”
Sidhu, who met Harish Rawat and party general secretary KC Venugopal at the Congress headquarters, was told to work as Punjab Congress president and strengthen party’s organisational structure .
Sidhu had resigned as Punjab Congress chief on September 28 as he was upset over some bureaucratic changes made by chief minister Channi.
However, in what may come as a relief to the crisis-ridden party, the cricketer-turned-politician has said that he will accept any decision taken by the Gandhis.
Emerging from the meeting Sidhu said, “I expressed my concerns regarding Punjab and Punjab Congress to party high-command. I’ve full faith in Congress president, Priyanka ji and Rahul ji. Whatever decision they’ll take, it’ll be for the betterment of Congress and Punjab. I’ll follow their directions.”
Sidhu’s resignation, that precipitated the crisis in the state unit, has not been accepted by the party till now.
Charanjeet Singh Channi took oath as the 16th chief minister of Punjab on September 20, days after Captain Amarinder Singh stepped down from the post of Punjab chief minister following months of infighting between him and Navjot Singh Sidhu.
