Punjab Police arrests separatist leader Amritpal Singh from Jalandhar; internet services shut down across state | Ludhiana News – Times of India

JALANDHAR: Punjab police on Saturday arrested seperatist leader and Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh in Mehatpur area of Jalandhar district, according to sources. Earlier during the day, he had escaped while being chased by the police.

A few of Amritpal’s associates were also detained at Mehatpur while a few others and Amritpal himself managed to escape in his vehicle. The chase was streamed live from his vehicle also.
In the statewide crackdown, Punjab police detained others persons also including social media influencers.

As soon as police started chasing Amritpal Singh in the noon in Shahkot area of Jalandhar, and by the time he reached Mehatpur, his associates immediately disseminated the information about the police action and gave calls to reach the area. However, soon the internet services were shut down across the state.

Senior police officers are not yet disclosing about the case/s in which Amritpal has been arrested. The action has taken place a day before he was to start the second leg of Khalsa Wahir from Mukatsar on Sunday.
